Introduction
When you're hosting or attending a Goldcast event, video quality plays a big role in creating a polished, engaging experience. This guide breaks down the different resolutions Goldcast supports across event types and how we automatically adjust those resolutions behind the scenes to ensure everything looks great—no matter your network conditions or how many people are on stage.
How Goldcast Optimizes Resolution Dynamically
Goldcast automatically tailors video quality using a combination of:
- Your session type
- Your selected layout
- How many people are on stage
- Whether screen sharing is active
- Network performance for speakers and attendees
- Device performance for speakers
What Resolutions Does Goldcast Support?
RTMP Sessions
For sessions streamed via RTMP:
- Maximum resolution – 1080p for both incoming and outgoing streams.
-
Output resolutions available – 1080p, 720p, and 360p.
- The actual resolution depends on what the destination platform supports and the viewer's bandwidth.
So if you're streaming to an external platform, we’ll deliver the highest resolution it can handle, and viewers will see the best possible version on their end.
If you’re streaming in from an external RTMP service, we'll default to 1080p and deliver the best possible resolution based on the viewer’s bandwidth.
Pre-Recorded Sessions (Simulive or On-Demand)
For pre-recorded content—whether it’s scheduled as simulive or available on demand:
- Maximum resolution – 1080p
- Fallbacks – 720p and 540p, automatically selected based on each viewer's connection quality.
This approach ensures your video always plays smoothly without compromising on clarity.
Live Sessions
In live sessions, the resolution you start with as a presenter and how it adjusts depends on a few things:
- Starting maximum resolution – 1080p
-
Dynamic range – The system automatically adjusts between 1080p and 180p based on:
- The speaker's network quality
- The number of people on stage and the layout
- Screen sharing – The system always sets the screen share quality to 1080p.
- If an attendee's internet connection can’t handle these resolutions, they may experience freezing—if so, attendees can choose to watch in “Lite Mode”.
- If presenters are experiencing issues with choppiness, we recommend closing unnecessary tabs and apps for optimal performance.
Automatic Resolution Settings
Goldcast dynamically adjusts resolution throughout events to balance clarity and performance for your speakers and audience. These settings are designed to deliver the best viewer experience while staying within bandwidth limits for reduced choppiness and video pausing/audio dropping.
Layout Type | Target Resolution | Fallbacks | What to Expect |
---|---|---|---|
1–2 Speakers | 1080p | 720p → 180p | Best quality for solo or duo formats |
3–4 Speakers | 720p per speaker | 480p → 180p | Great for small panels |
5–6 Speaker Panel | 480p per speaker | 360p → 180p | Keeps layout clean and stable |
6+ Speakers | 360p per speaker | 180p | Optimized for stability |
Full Screen Share | 1080p | None | Designed for clear content visibility |
Screen Share + Speaker (Focus Mode) | 1080p (screen share), 180p (speakers’ video) | None | Prioritizes screen clarity over video |
Screen Share + Speaker (Split Screen Mode) | 1080p (screen share), 1080p (speakers’ video) | For Video – 720p → 180p | Balances screen clarity over video |
Optional Override for Speakers
Some events, such as high-profile keynotes, demand the sharpest possible image. This is why Goldcast offers an optional setting that allows you to manually force a specific resolution for speakers.
Things to keep in mind:
- This feature can improve quality, especially for single-speaker events.
- It may cause performance issues for attendees with limited bandwidth.
We recommend enabling this and selecting higher resolutions like 1080p only when you’re confident your audience has strong connectivity or if the visual presentation quality is critical.
Goldcast is designed to deliver the highest possible video quality, ensuring a smooth and stable experience for attendees. Whether you’re hosting a panel, streaming a keynote, or sharing pre-recorded content, our system intelligently adjusts resolution to fit the context, ensuring your events always look and feel professional.
